Mercedes Mondragon was born in Chicago in 1929. She spent her early adolescence growing up in a small pueblo in Michoacan before meeting and marrying her departed husband, Frank Mondragon, with whom she had 9 children: Yolanda, Maria, Carlos, Josie, Andrew, Sally, Gloria, Joe, and Esther. “Grandma” as we all called her, had a fighting spirit, anytime you asked her how she was doing, she would respond with, “still kicking the bucket.” She was a strong and witty woman who had a contagious laugh. She enjoyed gardening, her early morning pan and cafe, but most of all, loved spending time with the generations of family she created, which included her grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. You could always count on going to Grandma’s and be welcomed with a meal and her warm embrace. Her life will live on forever in the hearts and memories of her family. Visitation services will be held on Saturday, November 25 from 8-11 a.m. Chapel Service 10:30 a.m. at G. Martinez Funeral Home, 5725 S. Pulaski Rd. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
